What is Cloud Hosting?
The cloud hosting today seems to be the current buzzword. Cloud hosting is the latest form of hosting that is provided by most of the top web hosting providers.
The reason that cloud hosting for the web hosting providers is becoming popular and for there customers is that the resources required for maintaining your website are spread across more than one web server so is able to handle peak loads easily without facing any bandwidth issues, so this greatly reduces chances of any downtimes in case of peak high traffic or a server malfunction.
How Does it Work?
Each server in the cloud helps in carrying out there tasks, so if a failure of any of the servers in the cloud occurs, the other servers can take over that failed server tasks or another server will temporarily kick-in as a back-up to make make resources available. The same happens when traffic increases.
Why Change to Cloud Hosting?
Here are some reasons and advantages of this type of hosting and if it suits your needs.
Scalability: If the time has come that you have outgrown your current host planning. You can seamlessly upgrade instantly unlike if using dedicated or shared servers. As its not just one machine but multiple machines, this makes it easier.
Improve Performance: That’s because in addition to the increased capacity leading to increased availability, it also allows for load balancing across multiple servers. The end result is less strain on any one server and better user experience for everyone.
Disaster recovery: Makes disaster recovery much easier, especially if you’re already using a multi-server hosting architecture.
Customer Support: This is very important, round-the-clock 24/7 support.
What does it Cost?
At present the cheapest cloud hosting I found was $19.99 per month from InMotion Hosting, iPage and HostGator. This seems to the average price except for SiteGround, who were charging $80 per month, WOW. So at present if starting off a website, cloud hosting is not the most cost effective option.
Remember, this type of hosting offers the same resources as VPS hosting. You pay an initial charge then the extras if required!
With the cloud hosting reasonably new and several good hosting providers already offer cloud hosting. In the future, most if not all web hosting with be cloud hosting, but for now the small business or blogger, its not really a cost effective option. So pricing will have to come down further.
